8. Davis Bertans — F, Washington Wizards — Salary of $7,000,000

Davis Bertans could be the best shooter in the league so far this season. He has a lightning-quick release, the size to launch over almost any defender at 6-foot-10, and the willingness to shoot from several feet behind the line. He’s been empowered to launch from anywhere this year, and he’s scoring more efficiently than almost any other player in the league. His percentage from deep has hovered around the mid-40s on the year, and that’s on a huge number of attempts per game. That is valuable for any team that wants spacing.

Bertans is a great cutter, so he’s good at finding himself open for triples even when opponents gameplan for him. He has a decent pump-and-go game, and he can score off the dribble if opponents overplay his shooting by too large a margin. He offers more than just shooting, even if that is the main selling point.

Because Bertans has such a low salary, he could fit almost anywhere. Any team in the league could use his shooting, but specifically the Houston Rockets or Milwaukee Bucks. This isn’t a ranking of long-term value, but instead of players who could most help this immediately, in this 2019-20 season. Houston and Milwaukee have stockpiled shooters, but neither team has a tier-one elite shooter. Bertans would give either team that missing piece. He’ll command at least a first-round pick.
