2020 NFL mock draft: Miami Dolphins trade up for Tua Tagovailoa
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets were one of the hottest teams in football to close out the 2019 NFL season, which gives their fan base reason to believe they could challenge in what should be a wide open AFC East in 2020. They have definitely found their quarterback in Sam Darnold, who battled back from mono to lead this team to wins in six of their last eight games to close out the season.
However, no matter how good Darnold is going to be, this team needs to add weapons around him, and get him better protection up front. Darnold’s No. 1 target, Robby Anderson, will probably leave via free agency this season, which means they could use the No. 11 overall pick to bring in arguably the best playmaking wideout in this draft class.
CeeDee Lamb from Oklahoma is one of the more NFL-ready wideouts in this draft class, and has had the luxury of catching balls from Heisman Trophy winners for most of his college career. With the Jets, he would be a true WR1 right out of the gate, and if they decide not to pay Anderson a boatload of money, they lose nothing in terms of talent with this pick here.
The Las Vegas Raiders will hold two first round picks in 2020, and after seeing what new general manager Mike Mayock did in 2019, the fan base has to be excited about that. In fact, they hold five of the first 91 picks in this year’s NFL Draft, which means more young talent on a roster that is definitely trending upward.
Heading into their first season in Vegas, the Raiders have a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball, but it is the defense that needs addressing with the No. 12 overall pick. They were absolutely atrocious at times, losing some games by 30-plus points, while allowing an incredible 416 points overall in 2019.
With this pick, look for them to bring in Isaiah Simmons from Clemson, who I believe is the perfect draft pick for this team moving forward. They need a cover linebacker who can play all over the field, much like Derwin James does for the Los Angeles Chargers, and they get their man here at No. 12.
