NBA Trade Deadline 2020: 10 players who could use a change of scenery
1. Kevin Love
Kevin Love‘s body language and frustration with the rebuilding Cleveland Cavaliers has been obvious all season to anyone tuning in, so the report about his emotional tirade to general manager Koby Altman should come as no surprise. Love has been a constant presence in trade rumors since he first signed that four-year, $120 million extension in 2018, and it appears all that tension and speculation is finally coming to a head.
Love is still a useful stretch-4/small-ball 5 in this league, as he’s shown by his 17.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game on 36.7 percent shooting from deep this year. There are understandable concerns over his injury history and age (31), but Love has championship experience and could really help a number of teams looking for frontcourt firepower.
The problem here is between his frequent injury woes, age and remaining years/money on his contract, it’s unlikely Love finds the trade savior he’s looking for. Even with the promise from Altman this team would compete when he first signed the extension, on some level, he had to have known what the future held for this group. It’s unfortunate to see the last remaining vestige of Cleveland’s championship Big 3 wasting away like this, but as much as a change of scenery would be welcome for both parties, it feels highly unlikely to materialize.
