NBA Trade Deadline 2020: 10 players who could use a change of scenery
6. Al Horford
The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t completely right, and the addition of Al Horford seems to be at the root of the issue. There’s continued consternation over Joel Embiid‘s durability and Ben Simmons‘ lack of a jump shot, but Horford’s reportedly unhappy with being unable to show his full offensive repertoire, and to this point, the Sixers have underachieved.
The big question here is whether the dynamic of the playoffs changes things. This group doesn’t appear to have “it” on a night-to-night basis, but a five-man group of Simmons, Josh Richardson, Tobias Harris, Horford and Embiid is damn hard to score on, and may be even harder to best over the course of a seven-game series. When bench minutes get tight and matchups matter most, Philly is as well-built for a postseason run as anybody.
If the Sixers don’t feel as confident about that, however, they could look to move a useful two-way veteran like Horford to fill the holes in their roster. Adding reliable 3-point shooting and playmaking would be useful, and even though his numbers haven’t dipped too drastically compared to last season, there’s no question the 33-year-old Horford has more to offer a team than simply filling the frontcourt gaps for Embiid.
