3. Taijuan Walker, Free Agent

Walker missed most of the past two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks recovering from Tommy John surgery and a then suffering a right shoulder issue, though he returned to pitch one scoreless inning in the season finale last year. The Diamondbacks non-tendered the 27-year old, making him a free agent.

Walker showed the form that made him a top prospect at times from 2015-2017 with the Mariners and Diamondbacks, albeit as he never reached 30 starts or 170 innings. But health concerns aside, there’s surely still some upside here and he won’t turn 28 until August.

Outside of the Seattle’s rumored interest in a reunion with their former first-round pick, there has been nothing attaching Walker to any teams this offseason. That’s odd, if nothing else, but also drives the cost down for any teams who may want to swoop in now in the weeks before spring training starts.

The Twins should absolutely be doing some investigating here, even if Walker would only be a low-risk/high-upside supplement to a subsequent bigger move to add a starter.
