3. For the present and the future

LaMarcus Aldridge is nearing the end of his usefulness as an NBA big but if the Pacers want to make a move and try to open their championship window a bit wider this season he could help. His post-game could stabilize a second-unit offense in the playoffs and he’s made himself into a 3-point shooter this year — hitting 42.6 percent on nearly three attempts per game. He’d be a defensive negative, especially sharing the frontcourt with Sabonis but they can offset some of that by working in Derrick White as well.

The Spurs may be loath to give up White but Lonnie Walker has played well when given the chance and keeping him and Dejounte Murray still gives them a backcourt with plenty of upside, especially with Turner in the middle helping a new young core begin to take shape. In Indiana, White would be a perfect complement as a third guard, able to play with either Brogdon or Oladipo, or even with both in a three-wing rotation against some lineups. He’s a far superior shooter, defender and creator to Lamb and he’d give the Pacers one of the best and deepest backcourts in the entire league.
