Cincinnati Bengals free agency 2020: Top 5 targets
By John Buhler
No, it does not matter that he didn’t play a game for the Bengals last year. Cincinnati needs to do whatever is necessary to ensure that wide receiver A.J. Green doesn’t play for another NFL team in his illustrious career. The seven-time Pro Bowler is the closest thing to a Pro Football Hall of Fame lock the Bengals have had since the legendary left tackle by the name of Anthony Muñoz.
Green might be 32-years-old by the time he plays his next regular-season game, but he’s the Bengals’ best first-round pick since they drafted Carson Palmer No. 1 overall out of USC in 2002. While he may not be a perennial Pro Bowler any more, why would Green not want to come back to Cincinnati and catch passes from a guy like Joe Burrow?
Okay, we get it that he’s been Andy Dalton’s guy since they were drafted together back in 2011 out of Georgia and TCU, respectively. That being said, you just cannot let the most talented player on your roster walk away in free agency for nothing. Cincinnati should do everything in its power to keep Green happy and keep him in the Queen City as a lifelong Bengal.

Though the Bengals have plenty of holes to fill on their roster, it would be foolish to think they’d draft a receiver as good as Green in 2020. Green will end up in Canton one day. He’s the consummate professional and will want to get back out there to help the only franchise he’s ever played for turn the corner and start winning at a high level again.
