2. Their defensive line will dominate

Arik Armstead led the 49ers with 10 sacks during the regular season. He’s not even the best pass rusher the Chiefs’ offensive line will face during the Super Bowl. That honor goes to Nick Bosa.

The scary thought for Kansas City is that DeForest Buckner still might be the most talented defensive lineman they’ll face on Sunday. The defensive front for San Francisco is primed for a big day against the questionable offensive line the Chiefs will trot out to protect Patrick Mahomes.

To put it bluntly, this is a match-up nightmare up front for Andy Reid and his coaching staff. They want to base their offensive game plan on Mahomes picking apart the San Francisco secondary. That’s going to be a difficult task when he’s forced to run for his life on a consistent basis.

It’s important to understand that San Francisco’s defensive line doesn’t need to rack up a ton of sacks to be effective in this game. What they need to do is force Mahomes to make plays with his legs time and time again. He’ll make some big throws out on the edge under pressure, but his prodigious talent can also be neutralized by forcing him to take a physical pounding.

The 49ers don’t need to do anything dirty to win Super Bowl 54, but look for them to do everything in their power to make Mahomes see ghosts when he drops back to pass.
