NBA Trade Deadline 2020: The 30-team mega-deal that solves nothing and makes everyone mad
By Ian Levy
Portland Trail Blazers
Sending out: Jusuf Nurkic (OKC), Trevor Ariza (CHI), Mario Hezonja (CHI), Gary Trent Jr. (PHX), Nassir Little (ORL), 2022 second-round pick (TOR)
Bringing in: Kevin Love (CLE), Jonah Bolden (PHI), Garrett Temple (BRK)
The treadmill of a-little-better-than-mediocrity that the Trail Blazers have gotten themselves onto is clearly broken, locked into a full spring. They are fully committed. The only choice is to keep running until you can’t run anymore or faceplant and take the pain as they go rocketing backward into the cement wall. They’re getting tired but this trade could give them enough energy to finish the season.
Who knows what Nurkic will be when he returns from injury and nothing else here they’re sending out is worth risking a treadmill-related catastrophe. Kevin Love might make them one of the worst defensive teams in the league but he also might help make them one of the better offenses (they’re currently 10th). Bolden and Temple could contribute for a stretch run and, again, they don’t really have a choice. This is the kind of move the Blazers have to make, otherwise…cement wall.
