Dallas Mavericks

Sending out: Courtney Lee (DET)

Bringing in: Terrence Ross (ORL), Denzel Valentine (CHI)

Turning Courtney Lee’s expiring deal into a lengthier commitment to Terrence Ross may not be ideal from a cap perspective but it should be an on-court boost and could let the Mavericks pursue separate deals to unload Delon Wright and/or Seth Curry and get some financial relief in a different way.

Ross got off to a rough start this year but he made 38.3 percent of his 3s last season and he’s hit 37 percent since the beginning of December. He also offers a lot more than Seth Curry as a creator on the wing and, if nothing else, could just wipe Justin Jackson out of the rotation. Valentine may end up being nothing more than a deep bench player but he’s also a shooter with size on the wing. This is maybe a bunt single as opposed to a home run but it could be a prelude to other moves and maybe get the Mavericks closer to a Rockets’ like set-up where they are stuffing as much shooting as they can around Luka Doncic’s creation.
