Anthony Gordon, Washington State

The North brought out Anthony Gordon to start the second half and he got things rolling with a 13-yard pass to Quartney Davis for a first down. When watching Gordon throw, one thing really stands out — his release. It may not look traditional but he has one of the quickest releases I have ever witnessed. His motion is short and quick and the ball comes out accurately. It didn’t take long to see that he was further along than Patterson, even if he doesn’t have the same type of name recognition.

Gordon’s first drive ended with a touchdown run from Hasty, but Gordon was responsible for a lot of the yardage as he was 3-of-4 for 36 yards on a drive that took just 3:09. He followed that up with another impressive drive, going 36 yards on eight plays before hitting Chase Claypool for a one-yard touchdown.

As impressive as he was making quick decisions and getting the ball out, there will continue to be questions about his footwork. He’s also listed at 199-pounds which will scare off a lot of scouts as he will likely take a beating. Still, he was good in this one and could sneak into the earlier portion of day three in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Steven Montez, Colorado

When Steven Montez came on the field, one thing that stood out was his size. The kid is a monster at 6-foot-4 and 240-pounds. However, he’s far from a finished project and he showed that when he ended his first drive by rolling into the arms of Alton Robinson on a third-and-1.

Montez was looking to go deep but nothing was there. He then tried to roll out but wasn’t aware of the rush to his left and ended the drive with a thud. Things didn’t get much better for him from there as he continued to struggle with accuracy and pocket awareness — which was seen when he threw an ugly interception to Troy Pride while trying to avoid the pressure from Joshua Uche.

Montez finished 3-of-8 for 22 yards. He lost 28 yards taking sacks, giving him a net of negative six-yards passing on the game. Not good.
