Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Amari Cooper. 3. 123. Dallas Cowboys. player

When the Dallas Cowboys traded for him with the then-Oakland Raiders two seasons ago, Amari Cooper was expected to be a difference-maker in this Dallas offense. Over the last year and a half, he absolutely has, as he’s been key in quarterback Dak Prescott‘s development as an NFL passer. However, there are no guarantees he will be returning to Dallas on a second contract.

The big issue with Dallas is they have three massive free agents they would like to bring back, but can really only bring back two. One would expect Prescott by priority No. 1 for the Cowboys this offseason, as they’re not going anywhere without solid play out of the quarterback position. After that, we can assume Cooper would be priority No. 2. But what if he’s some team’s No. 1?

Overall, Houston doesn’t need Cooper, as the Texans have DeAndre Hopkins as their No. 1 receiving target. However, Houston’s passing game can be a little too Hopkins-centric. He will make his plays, but Will Fuller’s injury history and frankly, a lack of depth in the receiving corps largely holds the Texans’ offense back, among other things.

Landing a marquee free agent the caliber of Cooper would give Houston some wanted shine as clearly the No. 2 NFL team in the state. Though it will make the Texans a better team by landing him, we have to really look at Cooper as a luxury item in terms of Houston’s offseason plans. We should expect him to return to the Cowboys, but what a get this would be for the Texans.
