18. Mahomes drops a dime to Travis Kelce for a score in Mexico City

The biggest stars seem to shine brightest under the spotlight of Monday Night Football, and Mahomes is no exception. One of Mahomes’ best throws of the season came on Monday night this year, with the Chiefs hitting the road to take on the Chargers in Mexico City.

Kansas City was up 17-9 with just under five minutes left in the third quarter and threatening again with a 1st-and-10 at the Chargers’ 23-yard line. Mahomes faced immediate pressure at the snap, but carefully drifted back in the pocket and still had the ability to drop a perfectly placed dime into the waiting arms of Travis Kelce for the back-breaking touchdown. This pass was perfect.

17. Mahomes delivers a strike to Sammy Watkins on his first game-winning drive

The Mahomes experience really took flight in 2018, but people do forget he was drafted in 2017, spending most of his rookie year sitting behind Alex Smith, who led the Chiefs to a division title. With playoff seeding secured, the Chiefs gave Mahomes his first career start in the regular-season finale, when he faced the Denver Broncos.

The game was tied at 24 in the final minutes, and that is where Mahomes went to work. Skip about 30 seconds into this video to see Mahomes make a brilliant play on 1st-and-10 from the Chiefs’ 32, scrambling way back in the pocket to avoid a sack before launching one downfield into the waiting arms of Sammy Watkins for a first down.

The Chiefs kicked the game-winning field goal, setting the stage for the first of many heroic moments for Mahomes.
