16. Mahomes hooks up with Tyreek Hill against the Titans

The Chiefs actually had the misfortune of being without Mahomes for a few games this season when he suffered a knee injury. He missed two games before returning with a brilliant performance in Tennessee when he threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns in a narrow loss to the Titans.

The play of the day in this one comes about 5:05 into the highlight video, with the Chiefs tied at 13 in the third quarter with a 1st-and-10 just outside the Tennessee 10-yard line. Mahomes dropped back to throw and backpedaled to the 20, launched the pass off his back foot, and still lobbed a pretty touchdown throw to Tyreek Hill.

That throw breaks all the conventional rules of passing fundamentals, but the rules clearly don’t apply to Mahomes.

15. Mahomes drops a dime to Demarcus Robinson against the Chargers

The Chargers have been frequent victims of Mahomes’ wizardry over the past few years, and what he pulled against them in Week 15 of the 2018 season stands as no exception. This game was highly hyped as the Chiefs and Chargers were battling for AFC West supremacy, and it lived up to all the advance billing.

The Chiefs got off to a fast start in this one, and you can skip ahead to 1:04 in the video when Mahomes faced a 2nd-and-goal from the Chargers’ six-yard line. He scrambled out to his right and waited what seems like an eternity for a receiver to get open before being grabbed by a defender.

Right when it looked like the Chargers were about to get a key sack, Mahomes threw a perfect pass to Demarcus Robinson for the game’s opening touchdown. Even when it looks like Mahomes is in the defender’s clutches, the play is truly never over.
