14. Mahomes’ bomb to Sammy Watkins gets Chiefs going in 2018 AFC Championship Game

The 2018 AFC Championship Game between the Chiefs and New England Patriots didn’t go according to the script for the home team in the early going. The visiting Patriots jumped out to a 14-0 lead, stifling the Chiefs’ offense and holding them off the scoreboard in the first half.

Everything turned in the second when Kansas City got the ball back to start the half. New England forced Mahomes into a 3rd-and-2 and was a down away from getting off the field, but he managed to roll out of the pocket and fired deep, hitting Watkins in stride to take the Chiefs all the way down to the New England 12.

A few plays later the Chiefs were in the end zone, signifying that the title game was far from over.

13. Mahomes goes deep to Tyreek Hill against the Texans

Everyone remembers the memorable Chiefs-Texans matchup at Arrowhead Stadium during the Divisional Round, and we will be visiting it later, but these two teams also met during the regular season. The Texans picked up a win that day, but Mahomes also made one of the prettiest plays we’ve seen this season.

Early in the first quarter, the Chiefs were over midfield but staring at a 3rd-and-21 from the Houston 46. There aren’t many plays in the playbook for that scenario, so Mahomes took advantage of an offside flag to get a free play, throwing up a jump ball Hill snagged at the two before plunging into the end zone for the score.

It is true that the flag made it a no-lose scenario for Mahomes, but the ability to make that throw into double coverage is mind-boggling.
