3. D Brenden Dillon

Dillon has become the subject of trade speculation as the Sharks’ playoff chances diminish, with Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic pointing to the Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins among six teams with heavy interest.

Dillon is headed for free agency this summer. He’s strictly a stay at home defenseman (one goal, 13 points in 52 games this season), but he plays a lot (over 19 minutes per game this season), delivers hits (159 so far this year), blocks a shot once in a while (58 this year) and generally drives positive possession metrics for the team.

LeBrun further speculated the Sharks’ asking price for Dillon, if only due to a fairly robust market that’s apparently building for him, could rise to a second-round pick and a mid-tier prospect. Doug Wilson would do well to get that kind of return, and he should jump on if it’s out there. If this were purely a list of most likely Sharks’ players to be dealt before the deadline, Dillon might be No. 1.
