4. C Jeff Carter

Carter has more name recognition than robust production at this point, with just 23 points and a plus/minus of minus-20 in 53 games this season. But he has shown some flashes, with a five-game point scoring streak back in December (three goals and two assists), and maybe if he could play a little less than he does (just over 17 minutes per game this season) or focus on being something of a power play sniper, there may be some of his previous form left. He has six game-winning goals this season, for a team with just 19 marks in the win column.

Even taking into account he just turned 35, Carter’s contract is not all that odorous. He’s got matching $5.272 million cap hits this year and the next two years.

In order to move Carter and naturally get younger up front, the Kings may be willing to retain some of the cap hit he’s got left or take on a similar contract in return. It’s not out of the question that a contender or two that’s looking for a third or fourth line center will see or think of Carter and be intrigued, and Blake should be crossing his fingers another warm streak is coming in February.
