3. Kevin Love to the Suns

It’s time for the Cleveland Cavaliers to move on from Kevin Love. He’s a veteran on a team full of young guards that aren’t able to maximize his talents, he’s in the prime of his career and he’s talented enough for another team to send over draft picks in order to acquire him via a trade. The Phoenix Suns have struggled to find complementary players to build around Devin Booker, and if things don’t improve, they risk having him decide that he wants to play with a better team.

The Suns have faltered a bit after their strong start to the season, but they’re only a few games out of the 8-seed. If they were able to slot Love in the frontcourt, that would be the best player that Booker has played with in his career. Love is a solid rebounder, can stretch the floor and would be an exciting scoring threat in the pick-and-roll, with Booker having improved as a ball-handler over the years. Phoenix is starting Dario Saric at power forward, but he’s on an expiring contract and getting Love would be an upgrade.

For the Cavs, they’d get salary relief by moving on from Love, as well as draft capital. The Cavaliers are on track to have a top-five pick in the draft, and getting a second first-round pick in the teens would allow them to add another role player to their team as they look to build around Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. They’ve had a rocky go of it with John Beilein in his first year in the NBA, but giving the front office the tools to add young talent would help them craft their roster around the identity they want to establish for the future.
