It’s award season once more, and everyone is talking about who’s going to win Best Picture and what film is going to take home the most awards. But who’s hosting the Academy Awards this year?

There was serious drama surrounding the Oscars host last year. Kevin Hart was asked to host the show and people were excited to see what he would bring to the table. Well, some people.

Quickly after the announcement, homophobic tweets resurfaced from his Twitter account along with some homophobic content from his comedy shows. Twitter came together and called for him to step down from his position as host, which he ultimately did.

We were all waiting to see who the Academy would pull to fill his shoes, but they didn’t. They put out an announcement saying that it was too late in the game to find another host. It was that moment that they decided the Oscars would be hostless.

It completely changed the game. The Oscars have been on a downward spiral anyways — let’s be honest, all award shows are — but this was the icing on the cake. A hostless show? Who would fill the awkward silences or make jokes to pass time? The answer: no one.

This year’s Oscars is apparently no different, with the Academy choosing to go hostless another year. Maybe they’re planning on doing this for the rest of their run, or maybe they’re afraid to have someone pull out at the last second again.

Either way, the Oscars are the Oscars. They’re going to be long and semi-boring no matter what. However, hopefully, there are some good performances and presenters.

We know you might have been looking for a more fun answer. After Alicia Keyes totally brought it at the Grammys, we were looking forward to someone killing it at the Oscars too, but the show unfortunately won’t have a host this year.
