Bracketology update for the Big 12 where Baylor and Kansas could get No. 1 seeds, but how many teams will make the NCAA Tournament?

Baylor, Kansas and West Virginia are the only three locks for the NCAA Tournament out of the Big 12 but there could be a pair of teams on the outside looking in who crack the field.

Baylor and Kansas are in good shape to earn a No. 1 seed by the time Selection Sunday rolls around in mid-March. The two still have a game in the regular season that likely will determine the winner of the Big 12 championship and have momentum in the Big 12 Tournament. Don’t be surprised if we see one win the regular-season title and another win the tournament and both get No. 1 seeds.

If Baylor sweeps both the regular season and Big 12 Tournament, then Baylor will undoubtedly be the No. 1 overall seed and Kansas may drop down to the two-line depending on what happens with teams like Louisville and Duke in the ACC.

West Virginia can play spoiler in the Big 12 but the most likely scenario is Bob Huggins’ team is safely the No. 3 team in the conference and somewhere in the five-six line.

On the outside looking in

Texas Tech – Chris Beard led the Red Raiders to the National Championship Game last year behind the stellar two-way play of Jarrett Culver. The Red Raiders have had a tough time adjusting to life after Culver, but Beard remains one of the top coaches in the game and is capable of going on a deep run again this March. All the way to the title game may be a reach but freshman Jahmi’us Ramsey is showing signs of being special so don’t count them out. The schedule softens up a touch in the home stretch which should get Texas Tech in position to earn a No. 8 or No. 9 seed in all likelihood.

Oklahoma – The Sooners have been up and down all year. The lack of consistency from Lon Kruger’s club could be what costs Oklahoma on Selection Sunday. The win over West Virginia helps their cause since it’s a Quad 1 win and as long as they don’t fall below .500 in the Big 12 (they’re 5-5 entering Wednesday’s game vs. Iowa State), there should be a spot in the field of 68 for Oklahoma to get in as a No. 10-11 seed.

Big 12 Bracketology final tally

I got five on it. Baylor, Kansas, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
