New York Giants free agency 2020: Top 5 targets
1. Right Tackle Jack Conklin
The biggest issue that the Giants have had in recent years has been their poor play from the offensive line. General manager Dave Gettleman has been working hard to fix it, sinking significant draft capital and free-agent dollars into the position, but the group still has holes.
Left tackle Nate Solder has been a disaster since leaving New England, and the Giants are contemplating a move to guard or right tackle to salvage him. The trade for Kevin Zeitler was a solid move and guard Will Hernandez has potential, but the Giants do need help at both tackle spots.
The Giants could well draft a left tackle with the fourth-overall pick in the draft, but they should seriously consider going back to the free agent well for the right tackle spot. One of the top right tackles in the sport is hitting free agency in the form of Jack Conklin.
The Titans got all the way to the AFC Championship Game thanks to a strong running game, and Conklin was a key cog on that Tennessee offensive line. Conklin has received above average grades consistently from Pro Football Focus, and having a steady veteran on one end of the line could help the Giants if they choose to play a young left tackle right away.
The Giants currently have Mike Remmers at right tackle, but he is a pending free agent who was simply a stop gap for them. Conklin would provide a more long term solution for the Giants, who need to keep fortifying their offensive line to give Daniel Jones the best chance to develop into a franchise quarterback.
