Ryan Tannehill rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
1. Tennessee Titans
If it’s working why mess with it, right? Tannehill and the Titans proved to be a very nice fit, as he was everything Marcus Mariota couldn’t be all the way to a surprising run to the AFC Championship Game. It’s at best unclear if the team can find a substantial upgrade this offseason, though until further notice Philip Rivers will linger as a possibility.
Of course the Titans also have a big decision coming on another looming free agent in running back Derrick Henry. The league’s reigning rushing champ may want to reset the top of the market at the position, or Tennessee could use the franchise tag on him. The franchise tag, or a transition tag pending how a new CBA takes shape before mid-March, are options for one or both of Henry and Tannehill if Tennessee wants to go that route. But the more likely scenarios are signing both of them to a multi-year deal, retaining one on a multi-year deal and using a tag on the other or letting them both explore the market unattached to a tag.
For whatever it’s worth, and setting aside the inherent conflict of interest, Tannehill changed agents and is now represented by the same agency as Titans’ general manager Jon Robinson. That may pave an easier way to continue the relationship, if one is even needed to be paved. In any case, the Titans are pretty easily the top landing spot for Tannehill in free agency until it’s shown otherwise.
