2020 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions replace Darius Slay
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets will see their best wide receiver hit free agency this offseason, as Robby Anderson is likely going to find a new home over the next few months. That will leave the Jets with a gaping hole atop their depth chart at wideout, but a hole they could fill immediately at pick No. 11 overall.
Sitting just outside the top-10, the Jets should be able to select one of the two best wide receivers in this draft class in either CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy. With Jeudy going to the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the first round, that means Lamb lands in New York, where he could bud into an absolute star teaming with quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold is a fantastic young quarterback, and many expect him to become a Pro Bowl sooner than later for the Jets. New general manager Joe Douglas is going to bolster the offensive line this offseason, meaning Darnold will have more time to throw, and he could blossom into one of the best in the AFC.
With both Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb off the board, the Las Vegas Raiders will have to wait until later in the first round to add a wide receiver. With the No. 12 overall pick, the Raiders strike gold in this mock draft, as they add the best defensive tackle in the draft class in the player of Auburn’s Derrick Brown.
Sure, the Raiders got better along the defensive line this past season, as rookies Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell proved they could be solid edge rushers. However, the team still needs to get better at defensive tackle, and teaming Brown with Maurice Hurst would give the Raiders a young, dominant front 4 in Paul Guenther’s 4-3 defense.
The Raiders have to continue to build up the defensive side of the ball, and while defensive tackle is not one of their biggest needs, it is still an area they can get better. Looking at the draft board and seeing Brown still available would be almost impossible for Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden to pass up.
