1. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are moving on from Philip Rivers, and even with head coach Anthony Lynn’s expression of confidence in Tyrod Taylor as the starter next year along with the likelihood they draft a quarterback (Justin Herbert? Tua Tagovailoa? Jake Fromm?), aiming high to add a veteran is on the radar.

The Chargers are known to have interest in Tom Brady, and the interest may be mutual. But there are more realistic-looking options out there, and Newton stands out as one if/when he’s available.

The Chargers have failed to establish a fan base in Los Angeles (as expected), and it will only get worse as they become a tenant in the Rams’ new stadium this year. So adding some star power drive interest and ticket sales might be nice, and after Brady Newton stands as No. 2 on the star scale among the quarterback in line to be available this offseason.

Newton might even prefer L.A. above anywhere else as a possible trade destination, and the Panthers may be inclined to accommodate him as a de facto thank you if the Chargers make a suitable offer. In any case, a marriage of the Chargers and Newton makes a ton of sense on and off the field for both sides and that makes them No. 1 here.
