2. Cornerback

One of the Broncos’ top in-house free agents among a group of big names is cornerback Chris Harris Jr.

Harris was originally signed by the Broncos as an unheralded college free agent out of Kansas, but he worked his way onto the team and into the lineup rather quickly. He established himself as one of the best slot defenders and one of the best all-around cornerbacks in the NFL by the 2013 season, and after tearing his ACL, the Broncos rewarded Harris’ hard work and fast return to the field with an extension in 2014.

Harris was the subject of trade rumors all throughout the 2019 season, dating all the way back to the 2019 NFL Draft when it seemed he might be dealt for a day two pick. Then the 2019 trade deadline passed by with Harris still on the Broncos despite his name coming up in talks, specifically with the Detroit Lions.

Harris is going to be 31 in June, and it seems like he and the Broncos are headed for separation.

If that’s the case, what do the Broncos have at corner? They have a number of young players who could step up and improve like Isaac Yiadom, Davontae Harris, Duke Dawson, and De’Vante Bausby. They also have 2019 free agent signing Bryce Callahan who will hopefully be fully recovered from a foot injury.

With that said, replacing a guy like Chris Harris will more likely have to be done through more expensive means, whether through free agency or the NFL Draft.

This year’s crop of players to choose from is especially rich in free agency, but the draft class has some very good players as well. The Broncos will likely be able to find some guys capable of contributing immediately through both means.
