4. Los Angeles Chargers

As previously mentioned Griffen played at USC, so a return to the Los Angeles area may appeal to him as his career winds down.. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram give the Chargers one of the best edge rusher duos in the league, but the two accounted for 18.5 of the team’s 30 sacks last year (28th in the league).

There’s no doubt the interior of the defensive line is a more dire need for the Chargers this offseason. But it’s worth wondering if the 273-pound Griffen could shift inside regularly on passing downs, in an effort to add juice to a rush that needs it. The presence of another established threat coming off the edge could also allow defensive coordinator Gus Bradley to deploy Ingram and Bosa in more unique ways.

It’s not a perfect fit between the Chargers and Griffen, with the contract and role he’s looking for along with the overall team’s plans to address the defensive line as the most significant (and perhaps the only important) factors. But you can never have enough pass rushers, and the Chargers have as big a need as any team in that area with Griffen now standing among the top available options.
