This tier features some third basemen that will crush the ball when given the opportunity, but lack the skills to be a five-category hitter.

Yuli Gurriel, HOU

I have Gurriel a bit higher on my third basemen rankings compared to others. I like the offense he’s in. The starting pitching he’s going to face is weak. And the ballparks favor hitters. Gurriel is also eligible at first base. A 25 HR/90 RBI/.290 line is likely.

Eduardo Escobar, ARI

Escobar made an appearance on my second base rankings. Like some others, he ranked higher there than here. Like I said in the intro, third base is a deep position to find a starter. I don’t think he repeats his 2019 season but it won’t be a big drop off. Escobar will hit close to 30 home runs with 90 RBIs and a .265 average.

DJ LeMahieu, NYY

This is the last time LeMahieu is mentioned on one of my position rankings. We all know what he’s about at this point.

Mike Moustakas, CIN

I also talked about Moustakas and his new home in my second basemen rankings. He ranks higher there than he does here. It’s likely because the second base pool is a bit more shallow than third base. Either way, he’s an excellent pick.

Josh Donaldson, MIN

The Twins offense just got even better. Despite being 34 years old, Donaldson is still crushing the ball. Last year in Atlanta, he hit 37 home runs with  94 RBIs and .259. Now, he moves to a hitter-friendly park and division.

Donaldson is slated to hit fourth between Nelson Cruz and Eddie Rosario. He should be able to tee off against the weak Royals and Tigers starting pitching. He is risky with the low average but will be worth the pick for the power.

Max Muncy, LAD

This is also Muncy’s third time on a rankings post. He’s a valuable player that can give you 30 home runs, 90 RBIs and 100 runs. Fantasy owners will love his multi-position eligibility midway through the season when the injuries start to add up.

Yoan Moncada, CWS

Moncada missed 30 games last season but still saw improvements in certain categories. He struck out significantly less while hitting for eight more home runs and 80 points better, 25 and .315 specifically.

The White Sox made some big changes to their lineup, adding Yasmani Grandal, Edwin Encarnacion and Nomar Mazara while bringing back Jose Abreu. Moncada is slated to hit second between Tim Anderson and Abreu. He should get close to 30 home runs, 80 RBIs and .285 this season.
