The first leg of the Champions League round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday as Napoli host Barcelona at the San Paolo. The Donkeys finished second to Liverpool in their group. Barcelona won their group, finishing ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.
Napoli have had a disappointing season, sitting sixth in Serie A, nine points behind fourth-place Atalanta. After a rough start to his tenure in charge of Napoli, manager Gennaro Gattuso has started to turn things around. Napoli have won four of their last five Serie A games under Gattuso. However, the hosts could be trouble if center-back Kalidou Koulibaly misses Tuesday’s game. Koulibaly is among the best center-backs in Europe but has missed eight of the past nine games with a thigh injury. Up front, Napoli will rely on Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens, who have combined for 23 goals in all competitions this season.
Barcelona moved into first place in La Liga after their fourth straight victory. Lionel Messi was incredible over the weekend, scoring four goals in Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Eibar. With Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele both out for the remainder of the season, Barcelona will rely even more on Messi. The Argentine superstar leads the club with 23 goals and 16 assists in all competitions this season.
