5 teams that should take a chance on Jameis Winston
3. Los Angeles Chargers
In terms of a direct line to a starting job elsewhere, the Chargers can provide one like virtually no other team can for Winston or anyone else. Philip Rivers will be gone in free agency, and while he’s perfectly adequate as a starter Tyrod Taylor would get the nod under center for them if this was Week 1.
The Chargers will be in the mix to draft a quarterback in April, with Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love as prominent options with the sixth overall pick. So they could just be looking for a one or two-year bridge to that young signal caller, which only adds to the idea Tom Brady is a fit on the field as well as off.
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn prefers a mobile quarterback, and despite fairly mediocre rushing production Winston fits that template. With upgrades to the offensive line that should come and nice pieces around whoever the new quarterback is (Keenan Allen, Hunter Henry?, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler?, Melvin Gordon?), the makings of a top-tier offense are there.
If the idea of signing Brady goes by the wayside, the Chargers will surely be ready to pivot quickly. Winston should be on their list of options
