5 teams that should take a chance on Jameis Winston
1. Chicago Bears
The Bears have committed to Mitch Trubisky as their starting quarterback for 2020, but that facade has fallen away with GM Ryan Pace suggesting they will look to add a viable veteran quarterback this offseason. With little in the way of cap space right now ($16.6 million, via Over The Cap), a trade is the path if legit competition for Trubisky is going to be added.
Andy Dalton appears to be a top trade target for Chicago, with former Bengals’ offensive coordinator Bill Lazor now in place as offensive coordinator for the Bears. How much higher the Bears could or would aim is unclear, though Cam Newton lingers as an interesting trade possibility.
With the role (starter or backup) a new team would want him for and his market value in mind, Winston lacks clear, obvious landing spots as he gets set to see what’s out there outside of Tampa Bay.
So he could follow a template that served Ryan Tannehill well last year–land with the team that has the most vulnerable starting quarterback in the league and essentially wait your turn. This offseason that team is the Bears, and that quarterback is (or should be) Trubisky. An open competition between Winston and Trubisky during Bears’ camp would be interesting, to say the least.
