DraftKings PGA: 2020 Players Championship – Picks

$10,800 Justin Thomas

The price is fair, and his ownership should be manageable. Justin Thomas is one of the best golfers in the world, and he has been playing good golf, despite missing 2 cuts in his past 4 starts (his two made cuts were a 3rd and a 6th). He held the 54-hole lead at the WGC Mexico in his last start but was not able to close it out. I will look for a nice rebound from a slightly disappointing 6th. Thomas ranks 3rd in the field in DK points at TPC Sawgrass, a course that has been kind to elite ball-strikers like JT.

$9,200 Webb Simpson

Webb Simpson put up one of the most dominant 72 hole performances ever at TPC Sawgrass. He blitzed the field by 4 strokes in 2018, shooting an 18-under. Webb has been crazy successful since that win at TPC, with 15 top-10 finishes, 10 top-5 finishes, 5 second place finishes, a win at Waste Management, and only 3 missed cuts. $9,200 is far too cheap for Webb, who sets up perfectly for this course. On par with his recent form, Simpson has a T16, 1st, and T16 in his last 3 at TPC Sawgrass.

$9,100 Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau is all about bombing it these days. While off-the-tee is somewhat mitigated at TPC Sawgrass, bombers tended to fare better than shorter hitters at last year’s Players. Last year was the first year the tournament was played in March since 2006. Even though it is a small sample size, it makes sense that chillier temperatures make the course play longer. DeChambeau has played this course twice in his career, finishing T37 and T20 in 2018 and 2019 respectively.  DeChambeau is a Pete Dye specialist, ranking 5th in shots gained total and 4th in the field in DK points gained.
