SEC

  • Dates: March 11-15
  • Location: Nashville, TN
  • Top Seed: Kentucky

It has certainly been a strange year in the SEC, so this conference tournament could be absolutely bananas. There are two top dogs in Kentucky and Auburn, a solid second-tier featuring LSU and Florida, and a whole lot of wackiness in the middle.

Plenty of teams have work to do in the SEC Tournament if they want to feel good about their chances of getting an at-large bid, including Mississippi State, Alabama, and Arkansas. The Razorbacks may be the most intriguing of the bunch since they have a caveat to their resume in the form of a five-game losing streak that coincided with the loss of star guard Isaiah Joe to a knee injury.

This tournament is also important for Kentucky, which has the talent to be a no. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament but a resume that has been dragged down by several horrendous losses. The worst of those came at home to Evansville, which finished last in the Missouri Valley Conference and went 0-18 in MVC play.

Auburn is the biggest roadblock for the Wildcats since a key part of this team has experience from last season’s Final Four run but it is hard to see Kentucky getting denied here. The Wildcats’ faithful should also swarm Nashville in droves, so a friendly crowd should be just the push Kentucky needs to take them over the top.
