Houston Texans: CB Byron Jones (Dallas Cowboys)

For the fourth time since Bill O’Brien took over as head coach of the Houston Texans in 2014, the club is the reigning AFC South champion. Led by quarterback Deshaun Watson, a bolstered running game, improved offensive line play and some timely defense, the club finished 10-6 and wound up hosting the Buffalo Bills in the wild card round.

Watson and company rallied from a 16-0 deficit to win in overtime and advance to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. O’Brien’s team actually owned a 24-0 lead in the second quarter over the eventual Super Bowl champions before succumbing, 51-31.

But that was then and this is now. And the bottom line is that the Houston pass defense has been a liability in recent years. The team gave up the fifth-most passing yards in 2018 and this past season, was 29th in the league in this same category. The Texans surrendered 33 TD passes in ‘19 and cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Bradley Roby are both slated to become free agents.

The franchise has ample salary cap room and could make a splash by adding cornerback Byron Jones. The five-year pro has provided the Dallas Cowboys with solid play during his tenure with the team – missing only one regular-season contest – and would be a major addition.
