One perfect 2020 NFL free agency signing for each team
Kansas City Chiefs: CB Tramon Williams (Green Bay Packers)
It’s a team that has been in the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, a streak topped only by the New England Patriots (11). Andy Reid took over as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 and the franchise has posted seven consecutive winning seasons under his guidance. Last month in South Florida, the club rallied for a 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers to capture its first Super Bowl title since 1969.
The team overcame its share of adversity, overcoming a stretch that saw them drop four of their following six games after a 4-0 start. The final setback over that span was a 35-32 setback at Tennessee in Week 10. The Chiefs would embark a nine-game overall winning streak to close out ’19 and rallied from a double-digit deficit in each of their postseason wins.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl LIV MVP and the team scored 117 points in the playoffs. But an improving defense could still use some help. Veteran cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller and Morris Claiborne are among the team’s potential free agents.
Meanwhile, Tramon Williams just wrapped up his 13th NFL season and 10th with the Packers. He was the 24th-ranked cornerback by Pro Football Focus (subscription required) in ’19 and not only finished with 39 tackles but had four of Green Bay’s 25 takeaways. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo would certainly welcome another veteran with a nose for the football to his unit.
