Las Vegas Raiders: CB Chris Harris (Denver Broncos)

It’s the third offseason for head coach Jon Gruden in his second stay with the Silver and Black. And NFL Network draft analyst/turned general manager Mike Mayock is back as well for a second year. But it may take people some time to get used to this football team being called the Las Vegas Raiders. The home of the 2020 NFL Draft will also be the home for Gruden and company this fall.

As for the product on the field, this is a club that won three more games this past year as it did when the club finished dead last in the AFC West with a 4-12 mark in 2018. This offseason, there’s been plenty of discussion regarding the future of six-year quarterback Derek Carr and the possible availability of a certain veteran signal-caller in New England. But so far, much ado about nothing.

What is worth addressing is the ever-struggling Raiders’ defense, which has been a shortcoming for far too long. The club allowed 26.2 points per game and 48 offensive touchdowns in 2019, including 33 TD passes. Cornerback Darryl Worley, who enjoyed a solid year with the club, can test free agency.

But what Paul Guenther’s defense could really use is a veteran presence among the secondary’s young talent. And four-time Pro Bowl Denver Broncos’ cornerback Chris Harris could fuse a group that has some potential.
