One perfect 2020 NFL free agency signing for each team
Washington Redskins: CB James Bradberry (Carolina Panthers)
It’s been a pretty steady decline for the football team owned by Daniel Snyder. Back in 2015, the Washington Redskins won the NFC East with a 9-7 record. There was an 8-7-1 finish the next year, followed by consecutive 7-9 showings.
But the bottom fell out in 2019 as the club lost its first five games and Snyder opted to jettison head coach Jay Gruden. Enter interim sideline boss bill Callahan, who led the club to a 3-8 finish. All told, the Redskins wound up 3-13, the club’s worst showing since an identical record in 2013.
Now the new head coach is Ron Rivera, who spent the better part of the last decade guiding the Carolina Panthers and most of that very successfully. There were four playoff appearances and a berth in Super Bowl 50. The new defensive coordinator is Jack Del Rio, who’s also had success as a sideline leader.
The latest news out of D.C. (via ESPN’s Dianna Russini) has the team granting permission to veteran left tackle Trent Williams to seek a trade. But this is a football team with a lot of holes. And Rivera and Del Rio inherit a defense that was 27th in total yards allowed, next-to-last in the league against the run and one that allowed 49 offensive TDs – including 35 through the air.

Adding a familiar face in cornerback James Bradberry might be something that Rivera has in mind. In four seasons with the Panthers, there have been 60 regular-season outings, eight interceptions, three sacks and 47 passes defensed. The 26-year-old pro figures to be in high demand.
