2020 NFL mock draft first round and fantasy impacts
By Raju Byfield
19th Overall: Las Vegas Raiders – Jordan Love (QB – Utah State)
Team Needs
Linebacker, Cornerback, Safety, Wide Receiver, Running Back, Offensive Line, Quarterback
Picks: 12 (1st), 19 (1st), 80 (3rd), 81 (3rd), 91 (3rd), 121 (4th), 160 (5th), 227 (7th)
With the consensus top three quarterbacks off the board in the top 10, general manager Mike Mayock will jump all over the raw, but upside laden Jordan Love at 19th overall. A less polished version of Deshaun Watson, Jordan Love could very well end up one of the top three quarterbacks from this draft class when all is said and done. The Raiders will be looking to make a splash in free agency at the quarterback position, but whether they add a veteran starter or decide to roll with Derek Carr for another season or two, finding a long term solution under center will be a priority for the silver and black while they have the draft capital to do so. There is a big drop off from the Jordan Love tier, as no other quarterback still on the board possesses his combination of elite tools and skills. With this pick, the Raiders have landed two of the top players in this draft class and will look to round three to address wide receiver and the offensive line.
Team Impact
While head coach Jon Gruden is more bullish of Derek Carr, general manager Mike Mayock knows that the team can not go forward with Carr as their long term answer under center if they wish to be successful in the same division as Patirck Mahomes, Joey Bosa and Derwin James, and Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Love has the upside to be one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL once he adjusts to the NFL.
Fantasy Impact
With Jordan Love likely to redshirt his rookie season, in redraft leagues he will have deep league end of bench stash value at best. In dynasty leagues, especially superflex leagues, he will be a hot commodity. Justin Herbert will have the higher ADP in rookie drafts, but Love has comparable tools, and will make for an excellent late first or early second round addition for those who may not be lucky enough to be drafting high enough to land one of this classes big three. Love has QB1 tools and upside, and should be a weekly top 12 threat once he has a full offseason to prepare as the starter.
