The Harry Potter and Miracle Workers star doesn’t have coronavirus, but he is very pale and ‘looks ill all the time.’

The announcement that Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with novel coronavirus shook the entertainment world on Wednesday evening, with many wondering who and what might be next. Movies, from the new James Bond to A Quiet Place 2 to Fast and the Furious 9, have seen their release dates postponed and television productions are beginning to be delayed as well, with both scripted (The Morning Show) and unscripted (Survivor) being affected.

Still, there’s something more harrowing about hearing our favorite actors have been personally affected and in the chaos of social media reporting, rumors gained momentum that Daniel Radcliffe had the virus. Radcliffe made a statement Thursday, however, that that is not the case.

Radcliffe is best known, of course, for playing Harry Potter in the ’00s movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series. The actor has had a sneaky impressive and critically acclaimed career since then, picking the roles that interest him most. You can currently see him starring on Miracle Workers on TBS, with Steve Buscemi and Geraldine Viswanathan.

He’s also currently appearing opposite Alan Cumming in a production of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame (no relation to Marvel) in London, which is how these rumors came to be debunked.

Have no fear, Harry Potter fans: Radcliffe is currently perfectly fine. In a phone interview on Australian radio show Smallzy, Radcliffe told the DJ the following story:

"I walked into the hair and makeup room on the play yesterday and the makeup artist was like, my niece has just texted me and told me you’ve got corona. I was like, ‘What?’ He showed me a tweet and it was like, ‘Daniel Radcliffe becomes the first famous person to contract coronavirus.’ I think it’s just because I look ill all the time so you can believably say it about me ’cause I’m very pale. That’s the internet. Flattered they chose me."

So that’s that. In this increasingly bleak media environment, a bit of good news: Daniel Radcliffe, as of March 12, is currently coronavirus free.
