3. Jordan Love

Love is not a prospect the Dolphins should consider selecting at No. 5. He’s nowhere near that accomplished as a prospect. However, Miami could elect to trade down and still grab Love to be their starting quarterback of the future.

No one should buy into the idea that Love is going to suddenly blossom into the next Patrick Mahomes. However, he does have some impressive physical traits. He can put some really high level throws on tape.

Unfortunately, Love also makes some really ugly throws. The latter tend to overshadow the former in the eyes of most scouts. Love has one of the highest ceilings in this year’s draft class, but he also has one of the lowest floors. His Utah State tape screams boom or bust.

Love also isn’t a quarterback who’s going to be ready to take controls of an NFL offense when Week 1 rolls around. If the Dolphins do select him in Round 1, they should still plan on Fitzpatrick being their starter for the better portion of the 2020 season. That prospect might not appeal to Dolphins fans, but it’s a reasonable course of action if their scouts believe Love is going to blossom into the best quarterback in this year’s draft class.
