1.Tua Tagovailoa

For much of the 2019 regular season there was an idea that the Dolphins might ultimately win the race to “tank for Tua.” Tagovailoa’s injury issues have knocked him out of contention to be the No. 1 overall pick. That doesn’t mean the Dolphins won’t end up with him in the end.

The biggest issue with selecting Tagovailoa in Round 1 is his medical history. His inability to stay on the field at Alabama is a major issue for several teams. The Dolphins need to spend a lot of time poring over his medical records before they invest a high pick in his services.

Assuming he does get the OK from team doctors, the Dolphins shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on picking him at No. 5. He is one of the most accurate passers to come out of college in a long time. Combine that with his top-notch decision-making inside and outside the pocket and it’s easy to understand how he can become a Pro Bowler at the next level.

Tagovailoa is the right pick for Miami in the first round absent any negative medical data. He will give their offense a quarterback they can build around for the next decade. Perhaps more importantly, he’ll give Dolphins fans a player they can count on to develop into a star. That’s a great outcome for a franchise armed with the No. 5 pick.
