5. Scrambling TD vs. Colts

Patrick Mahomes has two of these plays on his resume, and you might see the original one pretty soon. For now, though, let’s focus on this insane play vs. the Indianapolis Colts.

Mahomes had been battling an ankle injury in the games leading up to this one (including reaggravating it later in this same game), yet that didn’t stop him from escaping pressure. Many will point to his 4.8 40-yard dash time and say he isn’t very fast, but his in-game playing speed is much faster than that. It showed big time during this play.

After changing directions and outrunning a couple of Colts defenders, Mahomes realizes he is running out of space. He’s fairly close to both the sideline and the line of scrimmage. He uncorks a descending ball to Byron Pringle in the end zone where only the undrafted free agent had a chance to catch it. Pringle hauls it in and the Chiefs take the lead early in the second quarter vs. Indy.

While Mahomes is extremely dangerous as a passer from the pocket, a lot of his highlights come on wild plays when many things break down. In a matter of seconds, he goes from the pocket to being chased around, then loading up and throwing a ball 35-or-so yards downfield. Unbelievable.
