NFC East

Dallas Cowboys: C

The Cowboys did a lot during free agency, but there are moves on both sides of the value ledger. Giving big deals to Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are both decent transactions. Neither is going to outperform their deal, but both should provide good value.

The Gerald McCoy deal isn’t going to age well. He was quietly a below-average starter for the Panthers last year. Expecting him to bounce back in his 30s is illogical. Even the extension for Blake Jarwin is a signficant overpay. This was a really uneven offseason for Jerry Jones and his front office.

New York Giants: D-

Dave Gettleman should be thankful that Bill O’Brien is still calling the shots in Houston. O’Brien’s ineptitude is distracting people from just how bad Gettleman is at his job.

Paying James Bradberry $15 million a season is a fine choice, but is nothing spectacular in terms of value. The rest of the moves are much worse. Blake Martinez’s deal is downright laughable. The decision to franchise Leonard Williams is front office malpractice. New York fans should feel fortunate this grade is not a straight F.

Philadelphia Eagles: A-

To the surprise of no one, the Eagles have turned in another good offseason. The deal for Darius Slay emphatically fixes the team’s biggest weakness. He’s expensive, but worth every penny.

The Javon Hargrave also has a significant deal of upside. Don’t be surprised if he turns into a perennial Pro Bowler when he gets a chance to play with the rest of the talented players on Philadelphia’s defensive line. The Eagles didn’t make a ton of moves this week, but it’s hard to point to anything as bad business.

Washington Redskins: D+

The Redskins needed to add serious talent via free agency and they failed to do so. Kendall Fuller is the only signing that looks like he has the ability to be an above-average starter in 2020. At the price Washington is paying him, it needs to get at least that much production.

Franchising Brandon Scherff was the best move of the free-agency period. That isn’t saying much. Signing guys like Thomas Davis and Wes Schweitzer isn’t going to move the needle. The Redskins need to have a good draft after an ugly start to their offseason.
