2. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins didn’t quite tank properly last season, as they went 5-11, and they’ve been aggressive in free agency to go with having three first-round picks this year. With the league’s worst rushing attack in 2019 (72.3 yards per game), the signing of Jordan Howard to a two-year deal worth around $10 million made perfect sense.

Like their division brethren up in Buffalo, the Dolphins may see an opportunity to strike with the New England Patriots losing Tom Brady. They could make a trade for someone like Cam Newton or sign Jameis Winston as a one-year bridge to a quarterback they draft, and push to win more games this year without altering that plan for a quarterback of the future.

The Dolphins still have the second-most available cap space in the league right now ($53.67 million). While head coach Brian Flores clearly said they wouldn’t spend money just because they can, adding another back to pair with Howard should still be on the to-do list.

A draft pick (J.K. Dobbins, Jonathan Taylor, DeAndre Swift) would of course come far cheaper than Gurley. But making a deal for the 2017 AP Offensive Player of the Year doesn’t have to stop them from drafting a fresher young back in April, with a continued eye on the future while also continuing to move aggressively this offseason.
