Round 6, Pick 218

Original Selection: Leon McQuay, S – USC

New Selection: Harrison Butker, K – Georgia Tech

With the last pick in the sixth round and their last pick in the draft, the Chiefs selected Leon McQuay out of USC. McQuay bounced back and forth between the Chiefs’ active roster and practice squad before finally being waived in May 2019. He has three tackles as a pro.

Butker would have been the better choice here. He ended up being drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round. The Panthers would eventually move Butker to their practice squad in favor of veteran Graham Gano. Just a couple of weeks later, Butker was signed away from the Panthers by none other than the Chiefs.

Since then, Butker has been one of the best young kickers in the NFL. He has hit 89.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 95.2 percent of his extra point attempts. He has scored 426 points for the Chiefs.

Final Revised Draft Class

Patrick Mahomes, QB – Texas Tech
Alvin Kamara, RB – Tennessee
Eddie Jackson, S – Alabama
George Kittle, TE – Iowa
D.J. Jones, DT – Ole Miss
Harrison Butker, K – Georgia Tech

Imagine, for a moment, an Andy Reid offense featuring Mahomes, Kamara, Kittle and Tyreek Hill. NFL defenses would be brought to their knees.

Still, we’re sure Chiefs fans are happy with the way things turned out.
