2020 NFL Draft: 5 players Browns could take in Round 1
1. Jedrick Wills, Alabama left tackle
Wills doesn’t have the upside that Becton possesses, but he’s got more polish as a technician at the tackle position. That makes him a better fit for Cleveland’s need to find a player capable of immediately upgrading Mayfield’s protection.
The former Alabama star will come into the NFL ready to take a significant amount of first-team snaps. For Cleveland, he would immediately provide an upgrade at the left tackle position. Finding a player of that quality at No. 10 is a solid haul on draft night.
The only drawback to Wills is that he doesn’t have the size to overwhelm opposing defensive lineman in the run game. He plays with solid physicality, but he doesn’t have exceptional size. That may limit his effectiveness as a run blocker at the next level.
Selecting Wills in the first round would be a solid, but unspectacular choice for the Browns. It might be time for Cleveland to opt for substance over style. Wills isn’t going to thrill the team’s fan base when he walks to the podium, but he can fill the team’s biggest need before the start of the 2020 regular season.
