2020 NFL Draft: 5 players Saints could take in Round 1
1. Justin Jefferson
Jefferson made a ton of big plays for LSU last year and he could do the same for his hometown NFL team. In lots of drafts a player of his caliber would be in contention to be the class’ No. 1 wide receiver. The possibility that he could drop to WR4 in this class is nothing short of amazing.
His ability to work in the slot and on the outside should appeal to the Saints coaching staff. He’d likely start out on the inside for New Orleans before ultimately taking over for Sanders on the boundary.
He doesn’t have the track speed of either Ruggs or Hamler, but he’s a better overall wide receiver. He routinely made SEC defensive backs look silly with his silky smooth routes. The idea of him catching balls in stride from Brees should be frightening for defensive coordinators throughout the league.
It’s always possible a team jumps ahead of the Saint to take Jefferson, but it looks like he should be available when they go on the clock at No. 24. If that occurs, New Orleans should make the obvious choice and keep him in the state of Louisiana.
