850. DT. 3. South Carolina. Javon Kinlaw. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Staying on the defensive side of the ball, the Bucs look to shore up that defensive line. Javon Kinlaw is a prospect that’s been described as “unblockable”. For a defensive tackle in a system that includes Pierre-Paul, recently franchised Shaq Barrett and Devin White.

The issue here is the Buccaneers already spent a first-round pick on Vita Vea, who plays the nose tackle position. He’s not exactly a superstar, but he’s definitely a good player who doesn’t need replacing. However, this would be a “best player available” scenario for the Bucs. They’d see a talent like Kinlaw, and they’d want to unleash him.

The Bucs would need to make adjustments to their defense, but they’ve never really committed to a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense. They have a lot of talent in the front seven, and they could ask one of Pierre-Paul or Barrett to put their hand in the dirt in certain situations.

Kinlaw is a massive man, standing at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds. Yet, instead of being a run-stuffer like most men that size, he’s one of the best pass rushers in the country. South Carolina is overmatched in most of their games playing in the SEC, but Kinlaw made it work to make a statement.

He had sacks in his first four games before teams started looking at the tape and just going all out to stop him. Teams can’t do that in the NFL. If they double team Kinlaw, that going to open up the rush of Pierre-Paul, Barrett or even Vita Vea. It may not appear to be a position of need, but upgrading the interior of the defensive line with a talent like Kinlaw would make it one of the best front sevens in football.
