1 Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State Edge

The Titans need to acquire more defensive lineman who can make plays in the opposing backfield and Gross-Matos fits the bill. Additionally, his ability to play defensive end on standard downs and slide inside to tackle on pass-rushing situations would make him an ideal fit for the Titans.

It may take the former Penn State star some time to adjust to life in the NFL, but the Titans can afford to exercise a little bit of patience. Feeding Gross-Matos more and more reps as the season progresses could turn into an excellent plan for the team’s coaching staff.

The player’s upside is significant. His collegiate film shows him to be a player who consistently finds his way into the offensive backfield. It’s not always the most natural pass-rush technique, but that’s something that an NFL staff should be able to clean up.

The only reason he’s going to slip this far down into Round 1 is his lack of measurable foot speed. He’s not a classic burner from the edge. Instead, he’s more of a player that uses fits and starts to create an advantage against the offensive line.

His unconventional style shouldn’t trouble the Titans. Their front needs another guy who can help them inside and out. Gross-Matos could be that guy.
