Memorable Moments

Creighton topples Texas Tech in overtime

The non-conference season is usually a proving ground for programs and Creighton made its first major statement of the season in Las Vegas. The Bluejays were set up for a matchup with Texas Tech, the national runner ups in 2019 and walked out of Sin City with a seven-point overtime win over the Red Raiders. Marcus Zegarowski absolutely exploded for Creighton, dropping 32 points while playing 43 minutes.

Creighton stuns Villanova in Philadelphia

After a tough three-game skid the Bluejays stabilized with a trio of wins, putting themselves into the middle of the Big East pack entering a matchup at Villanova. Creighton used that game to make a statement, winning by 15 in Philadelphia to insert themselves into the tournament picture. Denzel Mahoney came off the bench to lead the Bluejays with 21 points while Mitch Ballock knocked down five threes, including three in the second half.

Creighton gets blown out at St. John’s

Every team has a bad game in the course of a long college basketball season and Creighton’s came at Carneseca Arena. The Bluejays had ripped off five straight wins before running into a buzz saw in the form of St. John’s three-point shooting. The Red Storm knocked down 14 triples to blow out Creighton by 20, which was definitely the low-water mark of the season.

Creighton sweeps Seton Hall to claim the Big East’s top seed

For most of the year, the media was ready to crown Seton Hall as the Big East’s best team, but no one told that to Creighton. After winning in Newark in February Creighton completed a series sweep on the season’s final day, blowing out the Pirates 77-60 in Omaha to claim a share of the Big East’s regular-season title. Creighton earned the top seed in the conference tournament on the strength of its combined 3-1 record against Seton Hall and Villanova.
