NHL trade rumors: Top 10 trade candidates in 2020-21
By Simon Vacca
9. Kyle Palmieri
Team: New Jersey Devils
Position: RW
Age: 29
For a New Jersey Devils team caught in the doldrums of late, Kyle Palmieri’s 2019-20 season was a largely positive storyline.
Having tallied an impressive 25 goals and 20 assists for 45 points in 65 games played, the 29-year-old right winger led his team in scoring — this in spite of the Devils’ longstanding flirtation with the bottom of the NHL’s standings.
Palmieri picked a good time to play well. Signed through the 2020-21 season at $4.65 million, the forward’s next pay day promises to be a big one.
His name briefly occupied the talk circuit of trade speculation after New Jersey moved its most prized asset in Taylor Hall back in December of last year. And while the prospect of a Palmieri trade is still far from a thing of reality, an intriguing offer may be all it takes for general manager Tom Fitzgerald to change course. Only time will tell if Palmieri remains part of the Devils’ long-term rebuilding plans.
